13.1. Settings: DB Connections

All database connections available in DMT are centralized here and can be used throughout the application without having to enter the connection details each time. In this settings page you can manage all the database connections (create, edit, delete, test, etc.).

Settings Tab

Before creating a DB connection here, the underlying ODBC Data Source Name must be created in the windows ODBC control panel. You can access the ODBC control panel by clicking on the link provided on the top right.

Command Buttons

Add New DB Connection Creates a new DB connection.
It creates a new row in the DB connection grid. All you need to do is populate it with the required information.

Delete DB Connection Deletes the DB connection currently selected in the DB connection grid.

Test DB Connection Tests the DB connection currently selected in the DB connection grid.
It connects to the database with all the supplied parameters.

DB connection grid

The DB connection grid shows all the DB connections available in DMT. It contains 6 columns:

  • Connection Name: Name of the DB connection. This can be any meaningful name. This is the name used to identify which database you want to connect to throughout the application.
  • Type: Type of the underlying database. This drop down list field is optional and indicates the type of the underlying database for this connection. Some features (e.g. Multi Table Groups) behave differently depending on the underlying database.
  • ODBC DSN: ODBC Data Source Name the connection uses to connect to the database. This field displays a drop down list of all the available ODBC DSN.
Note: ODBC DSN are created in the Windows ODBC control Panel.
  • Login: Login name used to connect to the database.
  • Password: Password used to connect to the database.
  • Description: Free text description of the DB connection.
