13.6. Settings: Logging

This settings page is where you configure all settings related to the logging of information in log files.

Settings Tab

2 log files are created by DMT:

  • A log file for the DMT Service: It contains a log of all the operations performed by the DMT Service (e.g. running groups and jobs automatically via the scheduler). The DMT Service log file is named "YYYY-MM-DD DMT Service.LOG" where YYYY MM and DD represent the current date.
  • A log file for the DMT Client: It contains a log of all the operations performed by the client (e.g. running groups and jobs manually from the UI). The DMT Client log file is named "YYYY-MM-DD DMT Client.LOG" where YYYY MM and DD represent the current date.

Both log files are located in the folder C:\ProgramData\SER Software\DMT\Logs (drive letter may be different depending on your installation location). They can be viewed directly from the DMT client by clicking the "View Log" buttons at the bottom of the main window.

The log files settings are as follow:

Create a New Log File Every Day: When this box is checked new log files are systematically created every day. For instance if you constantly run the scheduler, the "DMT Service" log file can quickly become very large, making it difficult to find information in it. With this option, a new log file is automatically created every day at 00:00 so have one log file per day.

Compact Format: When this box is checked each log file entry is placed on one line only (e.g. new line characters are replaced by " / "). This makes log files easier to read.

Update Progress: These fields indicate how often to report the progress of an export or load run.

  • Update UI progress every X seconds: This field is valid for UI runs only. It indicates how often (in seconds) to update the Run Progress Form with the number of rows exported or loaded so far.
  • Update Log progress every X rows: Indicates how often (every X rows) to update the log file with the number of rows exported or loaded so far. This option is valid for both DMT Service and DMT Client log files.

Debugging

It is recommended to only use the following options for debugging purposes as it slows down the runs and produces very large log files.

  • Log ALL SQL Statements: When this box is checked all SQL statements are logged in the log file (DMT Client or DMT Service).
  • Log ALL DMT Operations: When this box is checked all DMT Operations are logged in the log file (DMT Client or DMT Service).
